One of the most effective ways of getting the message across is by writing to express your views:-
The Trust needs you write to the planning department and to your local councillors NOW!
1) WRITE TO THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT
Planning Brief: The Council issued a revised planning brief for developers on 13th October and announced a four week consultation period on their Planning Brief for the Town Hall.
"I hope that as many people as possible will have their say, so that we can establish clear, agreed guidelines which will safeguard the future of this important building," said Councillor Ray Dodds, Executive Member for Environment.
Among the issues that urgently need fighting or challenging are:
In section 5 "Land Use Considerations"
- C3 residential use is being considered as a possible use for the Town Hall
- Car parking is not listed as a 'core' potential use for the rear of the site, despite its current use as a car park.
- The Citizens Advice Bureau site on Hatherley Gardens has been removed from the site, presumably so that it can be sold off for housing separately (and without helping to safeguard the Town Hall)
- The Council are unclear as their intentions for the 'Broadway Annexe' which forms the North Side of the Main Square. This part has major retail potential in any regeneration scheme, providing much needed income for the restoration of the historic Town Hall
- No mention is made of the Mayor of London's car parking standards for Public Halls (Haringey have recently withdrawn their own standards)
- No mention is made of the future of public toilets on Hatherley Gardens, despite their being within the site
- No mention is made of the strong opposition locally to yet more housing (at the expense of overburdening local services)
- The redevelopment is to be 'Comprehensive' (this word was used to describe the worst excesses of the '60s). The emphasis throughout is on the importance of a developer and the involvement of a trust is given secondary consideration.
Please write ot the planning department (with a copy to your local councillor ) to challenge the assumptions being made about the future of this listed building
